Power BI Student Survey Dashboard

Summary

I built a self-updating Power BI dashboard from 13,000+ student survey responses, enabling the sales team to personalize outreach and win deals using data-backed stories.

What I did

While working in sales, I received a large spreadsheet of student survey data – about 13,000 responses. I noticed the feedback was overwhelmingly positive, so I began creating custom graphs for specific institutions and products to highlight the value of our platform.

But I knew there had to be a better way.

I taught myself Power BI over a few late nights and weekends. After learning the basics, I built a dashboard in our company’s branding that allowed users to filter results by institution, product, year, and state. Once published, I shared it across the sales team as a reusable, self-service tool.

The Impact

The dashboard quickly became a go-to resource for sales. Several team members have used it to overcome objections and close new business. One notable example: a client entered a renewal conversation aiming to negotiate a discount – and ended up expanding their license after seeing how strongly their students responded.

The dashboard continues to be used and updated regularly, enabling sales to personalize their outreach and tell a data-backed story.

What I learned

Power BI opened up a new world of efficiency. I now update the dashboard each term with minimal effort, having replaced many manual Excel workflows. I also learned how to clean and structure data more effectively using Power BI’s transformation tools, saving hours of work and enabling faster insights.

Tools Used

Power BI • Excel • Python • Power Query

“The client was planning to ask for a discount, and instead added a subscription – this data is great!”
